Yesterday was for us a very long day. Just over 27kms! It was a good thing that we had been resting in Rheims the day before. The day was spent mainly cross country among the huge vineyards in the champagne region. At one point we were walking with Moët & Chandon vines on our left and Veuve Clicquot on the right. Our thirst for champagne was satisfied later that night when we stayed in a Chambres D'Hotes run by Mme Vivian Jaqueminet. She takes in pilgrims, offers dinner, bed and breakfast and its up to you to make a donation. For dinner she cooked a lovely meal for us and included a bottle of champagne from her sons champagne house "Beaufort". Delicious! To say we slept well is an understatement. We were sorry to leave her this morning.

I'm in two minds about today. We walked 25kms, a good 15kms of which was along the banks of a completely straight canal, the Canal Lateral a la Marne. For me there is nothing more demoralising on a long walk when all you can see, however beautiful it is, is a never-ending path. We craved for something to happen and got terribly excited when we saw first one and then a second barge on the canal. Towards the end, we started taking photos of large snails that crossed our path, a sure sign that we were about to lose our sanity! At long last we spotted the spires of the beautiful Cathedral of Chalfont en Champagne and all was well.
Tonight we sleep in an airbnb. Ana María had a shower first and as soon as I got into the shower the hot water finished and I have to wait another 3 hours for the tank to heat up. What can I say - Its been one of those days. Tomorrow we head for Coole, but our accommodation awaits confirmation. Anyone got a spare bed in Coole? Tomorrow another adventure awaits!
