REST DAY IN SIENNA
Last night we said goodbye to Giuseppe and Elisa who have now gone home. They hope to continue their journey to Rome next year. We had a nice dinner at the hostel and managed to deck the hall with bunting and balloons for Martin's birthday!
What a beautiful city Sienna is. The main square Il Campo is where last week they held the famous Il Palio horse races. Yesterday they announced the winners and the whole place was packed with people, colourful banners and a myriad of drummers!
We did the whole tourist thing today visiting the main places of interest including the Cathedral, its Babtistry and the Crypt. Marvellous!
Tomorrow we carry on to Ponte d'Arbia some 26kms away. It promises to be a hot day so we aim to set off early in the morning.
