Lucca to Galleno - 26kms

We had intended to have a short walk today. Unfortunately we could not find accommodation in Altopascio and had to continue our travels to the village of Galleno, where we are now resting in a rather basic pilgrim refuge.

Today's walk was in part on minor roads and in part through shady paths through woods. Before reaching Altopascio we came across a group of students from Pisa University researching a medieval burial site.

In Altopascio we went to the local library where they have a rather special stamp for our pilgrim passport. This is a facsimile of a medieval pilgrim seal and is somewhat larger than most! (By comparison to others, it's HUGE!). Photo tomorrow.

Our entry to Galleno was made over a very well preserved cobblestoned medieval road. Interesting to think of other pilgrims trudging this same road hundreds of years ago.
