Montefiascone to Viterbo - 18kms
This morning we left at 6:50am. Again we walked along the old Roman road which is beautifully preserved - quite a privilege! Paula had left a few minutes earlier but we were soon ahead as she walks even more slowly than we do! After that we went cross country with very little shade. By 9:00am the temperature was 26C so we hurried on towards Bagnaccio, well known thermal baths. As soon as we arrived there we felt it was too hot to sample these so we bypassed them and carried on towards Viterbo, our destination for the day.
Shortly before getting there we stopped for a breather, in the shade of a motorway overpass. As we settled down there, Oliver, the Swiss pilgrim we had met the day before caught up with us. He was going all the way to Vetralla (our destination for tomorrow!) a distance of over 36kms. Our only excuse is that he's a lot younger than us!
On our arrival in Viterbo we met Jill and her mum Robin, who were looking for somewhere inexpensive to stay. We carried on to our accommodation for tonight the Convento dei Capuccine, San Paulo.
Tomorrow onwards to Vetralla. We hope to reach Rome on Sunday.
