Hi! Rumours that we have given up on our trek have been greatly exaggerated! Telephone and Wifi have been very weak. Just now we are not sure if we can get photos to upload. We will try but if it doesn't work we'll try again in due course.

Pont Saint Martin to Ivrea 24kms

As we left Pont Saint Martin this morning we just had to take another photo of the incredible Roman bridge which has been here since 25AD!

The path today led mainly through vineyards and we spent most of the morning zigzagging across a multitude of vineyards spread along the side of the mountains. After that the path got more difficult going through woods and very rocky and steep "goat" tracks!

Eventually we arrived in Monstrutto where we had lunch. The Via Francígena was very well waymarked all the way to Ivrea but they have incorporated some stretches which are intended for The occasional Sunday stroll. In this case it took us in a loop for nearly four kms passing by the castle of Montalto Dora (which was not open to visitors) and lake Pistone, with beautiful views. After finally reaching Ivrea we found its beautiful Cathedral open but we could not find anyone to stamp our VF passport.

Tomorrow we go to Ropollo.
