Nus -Châtillon  - 16kms

I'm still suffering from a bad cold and laboured breathing, so once more we've opted to carry on via a lower route along the mountainsides instead of attempting the higher route which will have steeper climbs.

I'm very glad we did as it gave us the opportunity to visit Fenis Castle.  This was built and expanded between the 13th and 14th centuries and has been refurbished in recent years.  It is the most important castle in the Aosta Valley and is the former home of the Challant family who had the patronage of the Savoy Royal Family.  It is a beautiful castle and boasts innumerable frescoes, many of which have been restored.  Our thanks to our guide Donatella who gave us a one hour tour in Italian and English.

We then carried on to Châtillon where we are spending the night, visiting about a dozen small hamlets along the way and stopping at a few bars for coffee!  A very pleasant day's walk notwithstanding the fact that I'm not feeling 100%.

Tomorrow we are going to try a combination of lower and higher routes and see how we go.  The scenery continues to be magnificent and we continue to enjoy every minute!
