Etrouble to Aosta

Etrouble to Aosta - 19kms
After a great breakfast at our lovely hotel we set off for the first nine kilometres or so of our walk today along one of the most beautiful paths we have seen since we left the UK last April! The path started in Echevennoz and went all the way to Gignod, always on the mountainside and with a 14th century irrigation channel by our side. A wide path, soft underfoot due to the recent rains, which went mainly through woods. Truly delightful. Peter and Johanna followed us and we later met up for coffee in Gignod, before continuing on our way to Aosta. This part of the walk was also pleasant enough save that it rained on and off. The path also started to descend quite steeply as we approached Aosta and my thighs still ache from the brutal descent of the last two days where we have gone from 2473m to 581m! Ana Maria slipped and took a tumble but apart from a bruised ego and light bruising on her right arm she is ok. We entered Aosta with Ana Maria, Johanna and Peter leading the way. Tomorrow we rest in Aosta, a beautiful city founded by the Romans in 25BC. We are looking forward to visiting its many Roman and medieval sights. JoHanna and Peter are being met there by their daughter and her husband who are walking with them for a few days. We look forward to catching up with them soon.
