Fiorenzuola to Fidenza - 22kms
Another very hot day walking mainly on minor roads. Overnight we had lost track of our fellow pilgrims and so set off on our own at 5:30am. At around 8:00am as we were walking along a country lane, a man came out of one of the houses there and asked if we would like to have a coffee. "Certainly", we said and made ourselves comfortable seated at a picnic table, while we waited for Massimo (this was the man's name) to prepare the coffee. Suddenly, who turns up? Our fellow pilgrims from the day before, Fiore, Michael and Els and Tomas! When Massimo returned with our coffees he found four more waiting! Back he went to make some more. What a nice man. He had travelled extensively and spoke a little English, German and French.
After we set off again, all the others went ahead as they walk faster than us(!) and we stopped en route at every available bar to have a cold drink and to top up our water supply as it was a really scorching day.
We reached Fidenza and decided to call it a day. 37C was too much to keep going. Let's hope tomorrow is kinder to us.
