14th May
Chateauvillain to Saint Loup sur Aujon - 24 kms
This morning we had a rather unusual exit from the town. You walk up a dead end road in town, leading to the former main gates of the town in medieval times, you open a door and you walk through into the Parc de Daim. Almost like a scene out of Alice in Wonderland! Several kilometres later we walked through an equestrian centre and then through woods lining both sides of the path. We had a bit or rain but not much. As soon as the sun came up it started to get very warm. Naturally there were no cafes open anywhere. All churches we passed were closed so we were unable to sit inside to take a breather and shelter from the sun. Imagine our joy when we arrived in a village called Arc de Barrois and saw a sign for a bar. This was closed as well. As we were debating what to do a man came by and asked if we were looking for somewhere to have a drink. We said yes and he offered to show us one. A short time later he took us to his house where his wifewas already waiting with some cool drinks and biscuits! They later insisted on giving us a donation of 10 Euros for NDCS. Thank you so much Ghislaine and Christian. There are lots of good people in the world!
In Saint Loup we were hoping to stay at the Tyburn Monastere du Coeur Eucharistique de Jesus. I called to make arrangements and Mother Martine answered the phone. She insisted on speaking English. I then remarked that she spoke excellent English to which she replied "I should hope so, I'm from Liverpool". There were other nuns from Kent, one from Ecuador and one from Australia. They loved my brother William's Ave Maria and have promised to pray for Magnus and all deaf children everywhere. They offered us a brilliant dinner and an excellent breakfast and then we were on our way to Langres, hoping to meet up with our Dutch friends.
