Ornans to Ouhan - 25kms

Well, the day turned out beautiful in places and although it was a long walk the first 20 kms or so went really well.  Then we neared the source of the Loue and we had to climb up and down all the way at times having to zigzag and along the mountain side always with the river in sight.  The terrain was the worst we have experienced in a long time with narrow paths, slippery at times, incredibly difficult to climb, with numerous obstacles in the way.  Although the guidebook said you do not need a head for heights there were a few moments where I hesitated to look down!  I am sure that our Health and Safety Executive would  not have allowed this without introducing more safety measures!  The weight of our rucksacks also made it difficult to balance at times and there were one or two near misses but we managed to get through it.  These last 5 kms or so took us over three hours to negotiate.  We saw first the source of the river Pontot.  Then a couple of hours later we came to the source of the River Loue.

It was definitely the most beautiful scenery we have seen since we left Canterbury.  It is difficult to explain and I am sure the photos and videos will not do it justice, but it was an incredible experience and one we would not have missed.  I hope we get the chance to post this soon as we have been experiencing problems in the mountains with very poor reception.
