Lausanne to Aigle

Lausanne to Aigle - 14kms
Tell me why all the best laid plans fall part in your hands and my good intentions never end the way I meant.
Yes, you've guessed it, today we had to change our plans at the last minute. We made enquiries about getting a ferry to cross the lake and were told that the first one left at 11:40. We therefore had a fairly late (for us) breakfast and then made our way to the quay. Everything was closed. On enquiringly at the tourist office we were told that the ferry only runs at weekends at this time of the year. By then it was too late to try and do a long walk so we backtracked to the train station, caught a short 20 mins ride to Villeneuve and then walked 14kms to Aigle, where we have managed to find a nice B&B, also at the last minute!
The route today was not particularly nice as it veered away from the lake and run by the side of the train tracks for most of the time. It's saving graces we're that the terrain was flat and that we got our first sight of the imposing Swiss Alps!
Tomorrow the plan is to walk to Saint Maurice some 27kms away. Rain is threatening tomorrow so fingers crossed!
